For the Cupcakes

250 g Flour
200 g Sugar
1 Teaspoon(s) Baking Powder
1/2 tsp. Baking Soda
1 pinch Salt
1 Teaspoon(s) Cocoa Powder
2 Eggs
240 ml Buttermilk
120 ml Vegetable Oil
2 Teaspoon(s) Vanilla Extract
1 Tablespoon(s) Red Food Coloring (liquid or gel)
1 Teaspoon(s) White Vinegar

For the Cream Cheese Frosting

200 g Cream Cheese (room temperature)
100 g Butter (room temperature)
200 g Powdered Sugar
1 Teaspoon(s) Vanilla Extract
1 pinch Salt

Preparation

  • Total time: 40 min

Baking the Cupcakes

1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Line a muffin tray with cupcake liners.
2. In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder.
3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, buttermilk, vegetable oil, vanilla extract, and food coloring.
4. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until smooth.
5. Stir in the vinegar and distribute the batter evenly into the cupcake liners.
6. Bake the cupcakes for about 18-20 minutes. Use a toothpick to check – it should come out clean when the cupcakes are done.
7. Remove from the oven and let them cool completely.

Preparing the Cream Cheese Frosting

1. Beat the cream cheese and butter together until smooth and creamy.
2. Gradually add the powdered sugar and continue beating until the frosting is smooth and firm.
3. Stir in the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt.
4. Frost the cooled cupcakes with the cream cheese frosting.

Serving

1. Serve the Red Velvet Cupcakes immediately, or for an extra touch, decorate with edible flowers or sugar hearts for a festive Valentine’s Day presentation.

Mit einer kleinen Abwandlung (statt Frischkäseglasur habe ich Schokoladenglasur verwendet) auch sehr lecker!!
