Ingredients

For the Panna Cotta

250 ml heavy cream
200 ml whole milk
50 g sugar
1 vanilla bean (or 1 tsp vanilla extract)
2 sheets gelatin
100 ml mulled wine (preferably alcohol-free or homemade)

For the Mulled Wine

250 ml red wine
1 cinnamon stick
2 cloves
1 star anise
1 Peel of 1 orange (unsprayed)

For Decoration

Orange zest
Cinnamon sticks or cloves (optional)

Preparation

  • Preparation time: 20 min
  • Cooking time: 5 min
  • Total time: 4 h

Preparing the Mulled Wine

1. In a small saucepan, combine the red wine with the cinnamon stick, cloves, star anise, and orange peel. Heat over medium heat for about 5 minutes, allowing the spices to infuse the wine. Let it cool down, and then strain the mulled wine to remove the spices.

Preparing the Panna Cotta

1. Soak the gelatin sheets in cold water for about 5 minutes.
2. In a small saucepan, heat the cream, milk, and sugar along with the vanilla bean seeds (or vanilla extract). Stir regularly until the sugar is fully dissolved and the mixture is just about to boil.
3. Remove the pan from heat and let it cool slightly.
4. Squeeze the excess water from the gelatin sheets and stir them into the warm cream and milk mixture until they dissolve completely.
5. Add the cooled mulled wine and mix everything together.
6. Pour the mixture into dessert glasses or small molds and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, until the Panna Cotta has set.

Decorating and Serving

1. Before serving, decorate the Panna Cotta with fresh orange zest. Optionally, you can add cinnamon sticks or cloves for an extra festive touch.
2. The Glühwein Panna Cotta can be served directly or chilled for a bit longer, depending on how firm you prefer it.

Tip

1. For an extra festive touch, you can drizzle some mulled wine syrup or serve with a small portion of cherry compote on top. This will give you a wonderful combination of sweet and spicy – perfect for the Christmas season!
